Poster Presentation Application


The 34th ALTA National Conference will include an inaugural poster presentation session to provide an opportunity for practitioners and researchers to present and discuss work related to the mission of ALTA and the field of learning disabilities. All attendees who have results to present towards this end are encouraged to submit a poster abstract for consideration.

The first author should be available to discuss their findings with conference attendees on the date and time scheduled for poster presentations. All posters MUST be displayed for the entirety of the scheduled poster time Saturday, May 2, 2020 12:30 – 2:30PM MST.

Important dates:

  •     Conference Registration Opens: December 7, 2019
  •     Abstract Submissions Open: December 7, 2019
  •     Deadline Extended Abstract Submissions Close: February 28, 2020
  •     Conference Registration Closes: April 27, 2020
  •      Conference Dates: May 1-3, 2020
  •     Poster Presentations: May 2, 2020 12:30 – 2:30PM

Poster Elements:

1.     Title of Poster (50-word limit): The title should clearly and succinctly relate to the content of the presentation.
2.     Authors and Affiliations: Enter each author separately and identify whether the individual is the primary author or a coauthor. Enter each name by providing the author’s name and organization.
3.     Abstract (500-word limit): Please limit the text of your abstract to no more than 500 words. Do not include your title and author information as part of the abstract body. The abstract should briefly address all elements necessary to define your goals and results to the reader. It is a short description of your presentation, not a lengthy discussion of the complete work.
4.     Include the following sections as relevant for the work:
             Background/Literature Review
             Research Questions/Hypotheses
             Methods/Results (Study design, analysis, etc.)

Criteria for Acceptance:

1.     Abstracts will be evaluated for acceptance to the conference program based on the following criteria:
            Clarity: The objectives of the research presented are clearly described.
            Significance: The objectives of the research make a significant contribution to the goals of ALTA, relating to educator training, educational policy, student achievement outcomes, etc.
            Methods: The methods used (including the design, implementation, and analysis) are appropriate to achieving the objectives of the work.
            Presentation: The abstract is logical, interesting, clearly written, and free of grammatical or typographical errors.
2.     Abstracts will be rejected by the reviewers for the following reasons:
             Abstract Not Appropriate – The content of the abstract is not relevant to ALTA.
        Promotional in Nature – The abstract was written to promote a specific product or procedure on behalf of a specific company or organization.

Poster Abstract Notifications: Once a poster abstract is submitted, notification of acceptance status will be communicated via email to the first author. Authors will be notified of acceptance status by March 27, 2020.
